These delicious Orange flapjacks are lovely to make at this time of year. They feature in the brand new Wee Cook’s seasonal cooking guide for kids. My wee toot loved mixing everything together and pressing it into the tin with her hands. They make a lovely breakfast snack on the move and are great for a picnic. You can even pack them into school packed lunches or enjoy as a wee treat before the gym.
This recipe features in the first ever issue of The Wee Cook’s Seasonal cooking guides. The Wee Cook section on my website was created for younger generations. It aims to teach them how to cook with the Scottish Seasons and they will also learn about the Scottish cooking traditions.

Tips for making these lovely seasonal Orange Flapjacks:
- this is a great recipe for making with the kids. Encourage them to get stuck in with their hands to squeeze and knead all of the ingredients together in a large mixing bowl.
- ask the wee ones to press the mixture into your prepared tin using their hands or a wooden spoon. Hands are more fun!
- this recipe can be quite messy so try popping a dishcloth or towel down under the bowl to stop it slipping and to clear up mess easily.
- always make sure any hot equipment from the oven is kept away from the wee ones until cool.
- these can be cut up into large slabs or smaller squares to suit your children’s preferences and appetite.

80g Heather Honey
Zest of 2 Organic Oranges
200g Porridge Oats
150g Dates

Add the melted butter, soft brown sugar, peanut butter and honey into a mixing bowl and mix through with a wooden spoon.

The best way to mix this is with your hands so get stuck in and squeeze through the mixture until it is mixed all together.
Press the mixture into the tin carefully and even it out with your fingers so it is nice and flat on the top.

Lift out of the tin by the paper and cut into even bars.
Store in an airtight container.
